A Christmas with extra energy

No, we are not religious, it is like very much other people a time of joy, sharing and visiting loved ones or they come over to our place.

We did not plan any visits that year. We just wanted to stay home together and have a nice quiet time, sort of.

It is a week before Christmas when the arranging began.

What do we need, things for the table, candles, some extra’s for the tree to decorate and o, that is cool, some spray snow and pencils that can draw on glass.

Since we have a few doors with glass in the house, that would be fun.

My wife loves that spray snow, I hate it. It is fun to put it on a window but a pain to take it of again.

Hey, it is Christmas, be happy and enjoy. If she wants to draw, who am I to say no to her smile.

After shopping we came home with a few bags full. We dropped everything in the living room and sat down on the couch. ‘It has been a while since we really decorated the house. This will be fun!’

Sitting did not take long, we both got to work on putting everything at place and started arranging decorations, tablecloth, napkins, getting our very fake tree up and putting it full of lights and balls.

We do not do this very often, decorating our house so we went overboard that year. Everything was possible.

While I was still busy finding place in the tree for some last decorations, my wife started her drawings on the doors. She took the hallway and the kitchen door.

Trees, candles, bells, stars, even a moon was present in the drawings. She only had the colors red, green, brown, and blue but she did a great job.

With the spray snow there was a finishing touch.

After all the hard work, it was good to rest that night.

Early in the morning I woke up, took a shower, cleaned up what was left from yesterday and started to make some coffee for my wife.

When I woke her up later that morning we had breakfast together.

The tree was lit up and we looked around from our decorated table.

Christmas had started good this year.

There was also a special reason for us to go all the way that year. It would be the first year we had invited three spirits, close friends and family and we did not want them to come over and find a boring house.

After that breakfast we cleaned up. The sun was coming out a bit and a vague light came into the kitchen, the sun shining on the glass door.

‘Come here!’

My wife sounded in panic, and I ran into the kitchen.

‘What is going on, are you ok?’

She pointed at the door.

‘Your drawings, I saw them already, yes.’

She took my hand and when we came close from the door, she pointed out what I did not see from further away.

‘The print of a small hand,’ she whispered.

I saw it too. Without touching it, I held my hand over it.

Clearly a small hand, not one of our hands.

‘There is a child spirit nearby and he or she likes the drawings or wanted to add something extra.’

That is amazing!

Hope he or she is all right and has a good time with Christmas too.

Later we learned of a few children being in our surrounding area. We helped them cross. They saw others go, they wanted that too, not being afraid anymore.

Christmas itself is a time of joy and sharing with loved ones and friends.

We had some rough periods in our lives, so we did not celebrate very much but this time…

It showed us something else. We were together but also not together. Of course, we invited three of our loved ones who passed on but there were probably more spirits joining us.

We had three extra seats that year and since that year we always leave an extra chair now just in case a spirit comes a long and wants to join us.

You do know they can taste? They will try food and drinks too. Yes, they can!

More on that subject later in another short story.
